Héctor de Anda and his preoccupations

Héctor de Anda is always looking for the means and routes to express his interest in the relationships among texture, form and color. This was first manifested in the creation of exotic, tragic and fascinating masks to be replaced later on for drawing and painting. As a self-taught artist he plunged into de study of the relationship between form and color in two-dimensional manifestations developed on paper and referred to a wall.

At this solo show —not his first one, but unquestionably his most formal to date— I was able to intuit his paintings. They allow us to discover his interest in matter, color and form as well as in achieving some areas of transparency where the esoteric materializes. This exhibit reveals to the viewer Hector's fascination with different shades of brown, white and blue. The paintings usually refer to “doors that open, doors that close”; they are the same doors that de Anda opens and closes while testing his innate skill and verifying how much he can learn from himself while working solo. If painting is what led him to this exhibition, his preoccupations steered him towards presenting them in the midst of a performance by musicians and dancers, thus confirming his artistic devotion.
